What a thrill to discover that Across the Dark Sea has been shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Community Relations Commission Award!

The book is a testament to the courage of the people who, directly or indirectly, shared their stories with me, but it was wonderful to see that some of the other books on the list are written by the people who’ve lived the same or similar experiences. It’s quite humbling, as well as an honour to be there with them.
Wendy Orr is a Canadian-born Australian writer. Her books for children and adults have been published in 27 countries and won awards around the world. Nim’s Island and Nim at Sea have also become feature films, starring Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin (Nim’s Island) and Bindi Irwin (Return to Nim’s Island.)
