Happy New Year

I haven’t done very well lately at keeping up this blog – but I hope everyone is having a happy holiday and happy new year.

My husband, son and I are in Canada right now, staying with my parents on beautiful Salt Spring Island and also visiting our daughter and her partner in Vancouver (as well as my sister and brother and their families. Lots of talk and a fair bit of laughter!) We didn’t quite have a white Christmas but at least we can look out at the snow across the straits, and enjoy cuddling up to a warm fire on the cold dark nights, with all the Christmas lights glowing.

As well as family get-togethers, I’m enjoying researching and imagining Vancouver as it was in the 1930s, reading accounts of the period – especially other rumrunners’ tales – and interviewing my dad and his sister, searching for a few more seeds to start the next Mokie and Bik sequel. Meanwhile, my editor at Henry Holt has sent me beautiful Mokie and Bik book plates. Jonathon Beal, the artis for the American edition, did new artwork just for the bookplate – very special!

Nim’s Island is busy too – the sequel of the American edition is on its way back to me for editing, and behind the scenes, lots is happening for the film too. Cross your fingers and there should be more news to share soon! (You can always check the Walden website to see what the latest news is, too.)

Happy reading
Wendy
